Using the TraCIM Computational Aims Database
TraCIM: Computational Aims Database -- Version: 1.1
Home Page
The user starts from the TraCIM Computational Aims Database
home page. This page provides background information to the system,
and links to the various components, including:
-
How to obtain a contributor username and password.
-
Logging into the system as a contributor.
-
Searching for specifications of computational aims stored in the database.
The home page contains links to:
-
This help page.
-
A page giving terms and conditions for using the website and database.
-
A link to provide feedback.
Other pages include these links and, as necessary, a link to the home page and a link to enable a contributor
to logout of the system.
The components available to search only users, contributors and editors are described
below.
Search Only Users
The component Computational Aims allows a user to search the TraCIM Computational Aims Database.
A search may be filtered according to "language", "mathematical area" and "metrology area".
In addition, a free text search may be undertaken for text contained in the
"language", "mathematical area", "metrology area" and "description" fields.
Contributors
The following components are available:
-
Computational Aims: Allows a contributor to search the
TraCIM Computational Aims Database as described for a search only user.
-
Templates: Allows a contributor to download templates
in MS-Word and LaTeX for preparing the specification of a
computational aim.
A description of a generic approach to
specifying a computational aim and some examples to illustrate that approach is available.
-
Management: Gives access to components allowing the contributor to add and
revise specifications of computational aims and benchmarking data sets. The components
are described below
-
Add New Computational Aim: Allows a contributor to add a
specification of a computational aim to the TraCIM
Computational Aims Database. The contributor completes the fields
"title", "description", "refinement level", "language",
"mathematical area" and tick boxes defining the
metrology area. The contributor uploads the specification
as a file in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF).
The file may be prepared using any document
preparation system that is convenient, and the templates described
above may be used for this purpose. The contributor can also upload up to
four other PDF files that provide supporting information for the specification.
The contributor ticks a tick box to indicate that the specification
is ready to be reviewed and released under the supervision of an editor and
when this is done the specification can no longer be modified by the
contributor.
-
Edit / Submit My Unsubmitted Computational Aims: Allows a
contributor to view and edit a specification of a computational aim
that has been added by the contributor but has not been passed to an
editor.
-
Track Progess of My Submitted Computational Aims: Allows
a contributor to view a specification of a computational aim that
has been added by the contributor and has been passed to an editor.
-
Add New Benchmarking Data Sets: Allows
a contributor to revise and resubmit a specification of a computational aim
that has been submitted but returned by an editor as it requires
modification. A "Contributor Comments" textbox allows the contributor to
comment on the revisions made.
-
Revise / Resubmit My Returned Computational Aims: Allows a contributor to add benchmarking data sets
to a specification of a computational aim that has been reviewed and released by an editor. The contributor
selects from a drop-down menu an existing specification of a computational aim, and uploads a compressed
folder (such as a compressed zip folder) that includes the data sets, a document containing instructions on
how to use the data sets, and other supporting information. The contributor ticks a tick box to indicate that
the compressed folder is ready to be reviewed and released under the supervision of an editor, and when this
is done the compressed folder can no longer be modified by the contributor.
-
Edit / Submit My Unsubmitted Benchmarking Data Sets: Allows a contributor to view and edit a compressed
folder containing benchmarking data sets that has been added by the contributor but has not been passed to an
editor.
-
Track Progess of My Submitted Benchmarking Data Sets: Allows a contributor to view a compressed folder
containing benchmarking data sets that has been added by the contributor and has been passed to an editor.
-
Revise / Resubmit My Returned Benchmarking Data Sets: Allows a contributor to revise and resubmit a
compressed folder containing benchmarking data sets that has been submitted but returned by an editor as it
requires modification. A "Contributor Comments" textbox allows the contributor to comment on the revisions made.
Editors
The following components are available:
-
All components described above for Contributors.
-
Review Submitted Computational Aims: Allows an editor
to review a specification of a computational aim. The editor can
then either:
-
Tick a box to indicate the specification can be released and
viewed by Search Only Users.
-
Tick a box to indicate the specification should be returned to
the Contributor and revised using the Revise / Resubmit My Returned Computational Aims
option described above.
NOTE: An editor can contribute specifications of computational aims
as described for contributors. However, editors will not be able to review specifications
that they submit themselves.
-
Review Submitted Benchmarking Data Sets: Allows an editor to review a compressed folder containing
benchmarking data sets. The editor can then either:
-
Tick a box to indicate the benchmarking data sets can be released and viewed by Search Only Users.
-
Tick a box to indicate the benchmarking data sets should be returned to the Contributor and revised
using the Revise / Resubmit My Returned Benchmarking Data Sets option described above.
NOTE: An editor can contribute benchmarking data sets as described for contributors. However,
editors will not be able to review benchmarking data sets that they submit themselves.
NOTE: It is not necessary that the editor for benchmarking data sets is the same as the editor
for the specification of the computational aim to which the data sets are attached, although it will often be
the case that the same editor is used.
Version History
Current Version: 0.4, released 11/12/2014
Changes since previous version:
-
Zip files containing benchmarking datasets can now be uploaded and approved. The approval process is the
same as for computational aims.
-
Public searches, i.e. searches performed when not logged into database, require entering a CAPTHCA code.
-
Email sent to contributor automatically when a computational aim or benchmarking dataset they have submitted
has been approved.
Version: 0.3, released 09/12/2013
Changes since previous version:
-
In form for entering / editing computational aim specifications drop-down list Metrological Area has been
replaced with a number of tickboxes. This allows more than one Metrological Area to be associated with a
specification (if required).
-
In form for entering / editing computational aim specifications field added to allow contributor to add comments
if specification returned by editor for revision.
-
In form for entering / editing computational aim specifications now possible to upload supporting files for
specification. This is to provide background information for editors. Up to four supporting files can be uploaded.
They must be in PDF format. NOTE: These files are not compulsory.
-
The Help and Conditions pages have been tidied up. This includes fixing a broken link on the Help page.
